Windows 10 - problems with SMTP

Hi,
We run an email service provider, and we've had 2 reports of people who have recently upgraded to Windows 10 that the SMTP server (us) they are using no longer works.

One of these people is using Outlook 2010, and the other is using Outlook 2013.

I have tested their software, and there is nothing that should be stopping emails getting sent. Even the Outlook test email goes out successfully.

But when we try to send a real email, we get the following error:

Sending reported error (0x800CCC13). Cannot connect to the network. Verify your network connection or modem.

This seems like some sort of bug with the combination of Windows 10 and Outlook. We never even receive an attempt from them to send the email.

Anyone have any ideas or a similar experience?

Thanks

Hi Chuckee,

This is a known issue in Outlook after upgrading to Windows 10.

There is a workaround to help you resolve this issue, use the Windows System File Checker to repair corrupted files. Please follow these steps:

1.Close Outlook.
2.Right click the Start button in Windows and choose: Command Prompt (Admin). If you dont see that option, instead choose: Windows PowerShell (Admin).
3.In the Command Prompt window type: sfc /scannow (note the space in the command).
4.Wait until the process completes. This usually doesnt take longer than 20 minutes with a regular hard disk and takes much shorter when you have a fast SSD drive.
5.Restart your computer and then open Outlook.

Hi Emi Zhang,

Thanks for posting this solution to a problem that has been annoying me for countless hours. Running sfc /scannow worked for me. In the process, I ran into another bug. Right-clicking the start menu in Windows 10, then clicking anything on the pop-up menu, opened NCH Express Zip program. I had to delete the latter application for the start menu to work correctly.
