Windows Search Issue in Outlook in Win7

Hi All,

From last few days we are facing Search issues in Outlook 2007 and 2010 in windows 7 machine, Search option doesn't work at all. In Outlook 2007 for some of the items it works. In Outlook 2010 it does not work, it shows that Windows desktop search is not available.. Indexing option is disabled. We have rebuild the indexing. Installed and uninstalled windows search.

Thanks

Assuming you are using Exchange account, try to switch your profile from Exchange Cache mode to Exchange Online mode to check the result. Searching in cached mode is based on local Windows search service but searching in online mode is depending on both Exchange search and Windows search service.

If you use OST/PST as the data file, please also try to scan/fix it through the SCANPST.exe tool until no error messages report. See the link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272227

Thanks.

Thanks for reply Tony,

Yes we are using exchange account, I will try your option(Cached Exchange mode). I have used scantpst option but it doesn't work. One more resolution I found. If you login without admin rights on system then search is working fine but once I provide the admin rights to user and login again it doesn't work and prompt message that search will not work with admin privileges. Not Sure why..

Thanks

Hi,

if the search in online mode works, you can also try to rebuild the index.

If you need you can find a How To here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/change-advanced-indexing-options

Maybe it helps.

Hi,

Outlook in cached mode queries local OST file while in online mode it directly queries Exchange Server. Since you are facing issues in both cached mode and online mode, it seems that we have to do extensive Troubleshooting which is not possible via this Forum Support

Hence at this point of time I would suggest you to open Phone Support Case with Microsoft. You can always contact Microsoft Customer Central on 1-800-936-4900 to create phone support case. Alternatively you can always open case via web as well by visiting the site http://support.microsoft.com/oas

Hope this helps

Hi,

One more thing, why I am able to do search when I don't have admin privileges. Without admin rights search is working fine even in cache mode with local PST as well. But once I provide the admin rights to my ID or any one ID search doesn't work. If this works then how can I open Outlook without admin rights if I have admin privileges with whole system.
Any there any possibility...
In outlook properties "run this program with admin privileges in not checked".

Thanks

Hi All,

Problem has resolved, actually we have recently added one script at user login which is casing the issue. Once user login that script execute and it take control of whole explorer. As per my understanding windows search services also starting at that point and that script close all other exe till it successfully execute. After removing that script search is working fine.

Thanks for all your effort and supports.
