Winmail.dat problems with one external receipient domain.
Hi All, I'm having increasing problems with some users on my network not being able to send mail to a particular domain. Everytime we send them an e-mail, it arrives encoded in a winmail.dat file. The problem is, some of these clients are sending mail to this domain in plain text format yet the problem still persists!! I don't know what else to do. I've tried to research this topic and all I keep seeing is "turn mail to plain text only" format. I dont see why we should lose the formatting on our e-mails, since it adds a nice touch / finish to the mails we send out. When i send mail to Hotmail from the same client, i get no problems. So its just this one domain that is having problems deciphering the exchange e-mails. I think they run a Lotus system, not Microsoft for their mail. Any ideas on how I could solve or troubleshoot this? Its puzzling me! I am in the process of contacting the tech guy responsible for the customer domain we are trying to e-mail.Cheers. Chris.

Problem Solved! I set the policy in Exchange System Manager to send only plain text to the troublesome domain. They are now receiving mail normally again! What I Did... 1. Start > Programs > Microsoft Exchange > System Manager 2. Expanded the Global Settings tree and clicked the "Internet Message Formats" object. 3. On the right, I right-clicked in some space, then clicked New > Domain. 4. I Entered the name of the object and set the SMTP Domain to domain.co.uk (the troublesome domain). 5. On the Message Format tab, selected MIME > "Provide Message Body as Plain Text". 6.Set MIME and Non-MIME charactor sets to US ASCII 7. In Advanced Tab, set Exchange rich-text Format to "Never Use". 8. Message text wrap is set to Never Use, and the rest of the tick box's in the lower portion all ticked. 9. Left a note for reminding myself in the Details tab and I was done. Resources that were helpful: (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821750) Best Regards, Chris.
