Word 2010 hangs when adding a contact via the Envelopes and Labels dialog box
I am having the following issue on all PC in our network.
- Open Outlook.
- Open Word 2010.
- Click the Mailings tab.
- Click Envelopes.
- Click the Address Book button.
- From the Address Book drop-down select the Contacts folder.
- Right click in the list & select New Entry.
- Select New Contact & click OK.
- Fill in the basic info: name, email, phone numbers, address.
- Click Save & Close.
At that point the contact form closes. It looks like the address book list is trying to come back but that is where it hangs. At that point the only option is to force Word to close. However, the new contact is created in Outlook.
I can reproduce this with Word/Outlook 2010 RTM & SP1.
Has anyone else ran into this before?

Thank you for the suggestion. Renaming the notmal.dotm file did not fix the issue.

I also have this issue with PC's on our network... Anyone have some thoughts?
Issue occurs with with XP and Windows 7, sounds like a application issue.

Does the contact get created?
November 10th, 2011 6:23pm
It does appear to create the contact, but that is after you force word to close and re-launch it. Same thing happens the next time you try and create another contact.

Sounds like we do have the exact same problem then. Hopefully someone has who has had this problem & fixed it will see this post.

Ya, the frustrating thing is I can see my contact update in Outlook, yet Word is just spinning. It looks to me like a bug with Word. This is a major hassle for some employees that add venders to contacts and send mailings at the same time. They now
have to go into Outlook update contacts and then open word to actually print a label for that contact or go through the process of forcing word to close and reopen to print label.

I am having the same issue in Word 2013 on Windows 8. As you described earlier I can also update the contact and outlook saves it but word crashes after clicking OK.
Kind Regards,
Michael

Did you ever get a fix for this? I have a customer having this exact issue. I even went as far as reloading the entire system with a clean windows install and a clean office install and the problem is still there. Thanks.
