Hi All

When I create a document, this document is linked to to the attached template. When I open this document later I can still see the property of this attached template.

When I send this document as an email attachement, the receiver will see that the property of the attached template is empty.

When the receiver send this document back to me as an email attachement, the property of the attached template is reinstated to the original value.

However this does not work for my client. When he receives the document the property of the attached template remains empty, even if the template can be found on the same location.

Can someone explain why this happens?

Hi,

To have a template or add-in available whenever you start Word, store the add-in or template in the Startup folder. By default, the Startup folder is located in one of the following folders:

• Windows 7 & Vista   
  c:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP
• Windows XP   
  c:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP
  
  

If the location of the Startup folder has changed, you can find it by doing the following:

Word 2007:

1. Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Word Options.
2. Click Advanced.
3. Under General, click File Locations.
4. Save the template that you want available when you start Word to the location that is listed for Startup.

Word 2010:

1. Click File , and then click Options.
2. Click Advanced.
3. Under General, click File Locations.
4. Save the template that you want available when you start Word to the location that is listed for Startup.

thanks for your reply. However, that was not my question. My question was, when I open a Word document based on a template, the link to that template can be found. Even when the document is returned to me by email. When my client opens a document that is returned to him by mail, the link to the attached template is missing, although the template can be found on the corresponding location.

You open document directly in message, or save it to local hard disk?

Can the receiver access the template location?

How did you link to template? Could you please provide more detail step?

What's the version of Office are you using?

I know more about the problem Jim described. Please allow me to give you more detailed information.

They are using Office 2007 (dutch).

The template is opened and saved on the desktop (person A) . As you can see in screen1 the document is attached to the template.

Then the document is send by Email to an extern colleague (person B).

When he opens the document, the link to the template is lost (see screen2).

The colleague (person B) doesn't have the templates, so he can't use the macro's from the template (but that is not the problem). The problem is that the link is deleted. So when the document is send back, person A can't use the template functions.

Thanks for the imformation.

Please try to share template to (person B) as a workaround.

Download the template to following path:

c:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP

Hope this helps.

This "workaround" did not work for me, and creating a new document is always blank, not what I have in my normal.dotm.   HOWEVER, if I click FILE/New, then manually select My Templates where I stored a separate copy of the file, the new document opens with the correct template content (margins, header with text, etc.). 

I cannot get this new installation of Office 2010 to "read" or "display" the template's contents.
