Hi,
First, please let us know your Exchange and client version. Whats automatic response you want? An Out Of Office response or something else? If you are using Outlook and want set a out of office response. The following KB is fit for you.
How to use the Out of Office Assistant in Outlook
If you want like to response a customize message to all mails send to you. You can create a rule in Outlook to carry out this task.
1. In outlook, go to toolrules and alerts.
2. Click to create a new rules, click next, uncheck from people or distribution list. Click next, you will received a warning, click yes.
3. Check have server reply using a specific message and edit the notification email you want to send. Uncheck move to specific folder. Then click next.
4. Click next and then finish the rule.
Additionally, Exchange 2000/2003 disable Automatic response/OOF by default. You can refer to the steps below to enable it if you are using Exchange 2000/2003.
1. Start Exchange System Manager.
2. Double-click Global Settings, and then click Internet Message Formats.
3. In the Details pane, right-click a domain name, and then click Properties. The default SMTP domain is "*".
4. In the Properties box, click the Advanced tab, and then click to select the Out of office responses/Automatic forward/Automatic response check boxes .
If you have done all the suggestions above, but the email cant send to external user. Please let me know if that specific user can send email outbound correctly. Hope this helps and I await your reply. Thanks,
Elvis
