autoreply by server-side rule including original receiver address
Hello, i'm trying to send a server-side autoreply for mails to addresses that doesn't exist in the smtp-domain the exchange is serving. So the exchange server "hosts" the @ABC.com smtp-domain and receives an e-mail to the address Joe@ABC.com. But there's no "Joe" post box at ABC.com. In this case the Server generates an autoreply stating that the sender has tried to send an e-mail to a non existant mail-adress. Now i'd like to include the original receiver Asdress, so the adress that doesn't exist, into the autoreply message. This way the sender would know which was the mail-adress that was wrong. Is there any possibility to achieve this behaviour? Are there any Variables that can be used in the body of the autoreply message? Thanks for your efforts in advance. Kind regards

Isnt the standard NDR enough? The problem with auto-replies is that you will generate mail loops and most likely get your org put on blocklists replying to spoofed senders.Better to implement recipient filtering against AD instead and do not accept mail sent to invalid recipients. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125187.aspx How to Enable Recipient Filtering

Hi, thanks for your fast answer, but it could be an e-mail from inside either. So a autoreply at least for inside users would be helpful, just so that they can get all information they need from the answer to not repeat their mistake.

Well, the NDR will tell them that. Im not sure what the goal is here.

The aim of my question is to tell the sender exactly what the mail-adress was, that was wrong, because the autoreply will have it's sender as "autoreply@..." or something other static. This way the user can't figure out if it was a spelling mistake or maybe a contact is outdated or something like this. If course they could use the adressbook and would never get a problem, but users do not always take it the easy way. So is there a possibility to add the receiver-mail-address of the original mail to the autoreply.

Not that I know of. You could always script something or create a custom transport rule perhaps.

Hi,By default, when the user sending the email to the non existant user in the Exchange server, the NDR should be received. There will include the original receiver.Whether that is your need?ThanksAllen

Hi, thanks for your answers. The problem is a little more complex as i initially described it. The Exchange Server fetches the Mails with the help of a Pop3-connector from the Mail-Server of the provider. If there are mails, the exchange-server can't deliver, it would try to sent an NDR via the Pop3 connector, wich won't work. That's why i was looking for another way to generate an autoreply. Regards Frank P.S.: Please excuse the long delay in answering, but i did get filled up with lots of other stuff.
