betest.exe for 2008R2 ?
We'd solved an Exchange database backup issue with Microsoft a while back using the betest.exe tool in the VSS SDK. I don't know why but I'm trying it again on a new mail server and database, and now it's spitting out the error here: http://press.es.tv/tech/betest.jpg It makes sense that we would get this error on a 2008R2 Enterprise (x64) machine, although I believe the last machine was also 64 bit 2008R2. My question is, where is the 64 bit version? Do we have to download and install the entire 1.4 Gig Windows SDK to have access to this? This is what I'md downloading now: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=18950----------- Ron E Biggs Network Administrator Entertainment Studios

x64 ISO File Name: GRMSDKX_EN_DVD.iso is 64 bit on the download link you have provided. In the Windows SDK installation, the BETest tool can be found in: %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0\bin\x64\vsstools (for 64-bit Windows) and %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0\bin\vsstools (for 32-bit Windows). http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb530721(v=vs.85).aspx There is also a web setup which allows to customize the wonload and installation (493 KB) http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=3138MCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M

Still playing with the WinSDK install, my main concern is which feature do I install to get the betest utility? I really don't feel like installing the entire 1.4 Gig package on a production server. The list of the featured components is here, I've checked what I think is the right component: http://press.es.tv/tech/winsdk.jpg----------- Ron E Biggs Network Administrator Entertainment Studios

Hi Ron, The issue seems not related with exchange issue, I would suggest that you could post it on the windows server forum. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/windowssdk/threads Regards! Heh. Well for all the fuss I heard about log truncation in previous threads, it's remarkably simple to overcome. I called Microsoft. First, we went ahead and did a full system backup rather than just backing up the mailbox folder. Second, if you dismount the database, you can manually remove the log files and then remount the database cleanly. This allowed us to do a backup without having to deal with the 85GB of log files that had been generated during the mailbox migration. ----------- Ron E Biggs Network Administrator Entertainment Studios

So, long story short, there's no need for BETEST to deal with our issue.----------- Ron E Biggs Network Administrator Entertainment Studios
