change routing group master
ok. i screwed up. i took out my old exchange 2000 server to soon. anyway, it's gone. let's move on.
we have a new exchange 2007 server that seems to be functioning properly except through AD. if i try to add a new smtp address to an existing user on the domain controller through ADUC, i get "rpc server unavailable'. i can, however, add a new address to a user account through the exchange mgmt console on the exchange server with no problems. it will then show in ADUC on the domain controller. Also, when i add a new user it never gives them an email address, BUT if i add a new user, choose not to add an email address, then create the address on the exchange server, no problem.
bpa shows both servers still. it also shows "cannot connect to port 25 of the routing group master" and "cannot connect to port 691 of the routing group master".
it seems like the ADUC is still trying to use the old server. how do i point it to the new one?
how do i get rid of traces of the old server on the new exchange server?

Hi There,
sorry but i am confused here from your post.
you are saying that your E2K Server is gone, what do you mean by gone ? did you properly uninstalled Exchange 2000 from that server before transfering all exchange remaining data and system folders to Exchange Server 2007 ?
did you follow the proper steps to properly remove your exchange server 2000 ? or just simply took off your exchange server off your network, while the server object for exchange and all configuration still exists on your AD ?
another thing, do you have Exchange System Manager - ESM installed on the server that you accessing the ADUC from ? and from where you are trying to create a new user ?
this is thelinks i am talking about for how to remove properly Exchange 200X from Exchange 2007 Organization:

i'm saying the exch 2k server was not properly removed and theserver object for exchange and all the config still exists in the ad.
the former exch 2k server has been wiped out, reloaded and is now a file server with no trace of previous config.
the esm is not installed on the dc. i should be able to create a new user with an email address using only the aduc on the dc. i cannot. i should be able to add an email address to an existing user using only the aduc on the dc. i cannot.
i did not look at your links about properly removing an exch 2k server because we are past that point. i have improperly removed the server. now, having given you my "mea culpa", how do i clean up this mess?

Ok, here is what i want you to do:
Bring a desktop and install Windows 2000 Server on it, the same operating system that was installed on your old Exchange Server.
Join it to your AD Domain
install Exchange Server 2000 - System Manager component ONLY, not the complete exchange setup.
and then open ESM, you should be able to open and browse the Exchange Configuration Store, from this ESM.
then try to follow the steps mentioned on the articles i sent to you from my previous post, and try to transfer all the settings and configuration to your new Exchange Server , this including RUS, and System Folders.
off course you will not be able to transfer or move your public folders cause they are related to your old exchange server , which was wiped out .
please do the following steps, and let me know if the above steps helped you in solving your problem.
