configuring exchange for pop3 service
I have my exchange server up and running internally it is great and I can check email off site using OWA, but is there a way to find my actual pop3 or IMAP servers within exchange so that I can configure outlook at home?

Well, yes - all you have to do is start the Microsoft Exchange POP3 or Microsoft ExchangeIMAP4 service, but Outlook Anywhere is a much better way to work from home. It allows you to use the full featured Outlook client over an SSL connection. It would be the same as the one for OWA. Mike Crowley A+, Network+, Security+, MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator Do you still have Exchange 2000? Looking to upgrade to Exchange 2010? Read how.

then what would my mail servers be? pop.mydomain.com or mail.mydomain.com? I am using autodiscover from home but it is telling me it cant log on to the server, it is recognizing my email address but not the server. I guess once I find out what my mail servers are and then check to make sure the security settings match up with the exchange server it should work. thanks in advance I appreciate your time

Autodiscover is not Outlook Anywhere. Please see the link I provided above for details on the setup, or let me know what specific questions you have with it. There are no POP and SMTP settings when using Outlook Anywhere, just like there wouldn't be if you were at the office with the server. Hello Chris, I agree with Mike, Outlook Anywhere is a better solution for external access. I suggest you read the following article to enable Outlook Anywhere: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123889.aspx http://www.exchange-genie.com/2008/02/configuring-outlook-anywhere-for-exchange-2007-sp1/ If you prefer Pop3 and Imap4, you need to enable the services first, the server address is same with your OWA address(remove /owa). thanks, Elvis

So I am not going to use mail servers per your advice. So when configuring OAW from home I look under the account settings for Outlook 2007 and when I go under more settings and then connections I do not have the option connect to outlook anywhere, but from work the option is there. Do I need to install any additional updates from home?

Assumingautodiscovery is correctly configured, try simply creating a new Outlook Profile. When prompted by the profile wizard, enter your SMTP address and password and it should go out and find what it needs from your org and populate the Outlook Anywhere settings. You can also manually set per:http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HP101024441033.aspx?pid=CH101395531033

Hi Chris, You mean you can't see the Outlook anywhere connection settings in Outlook, right? Please check the following value entry in registry, if it doesn't exist, create a new one. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\RPC Value name: EnableRPCTunnelingUI Value data: DWORD Set the value to 1 to enable RPC over HTTP user interface options. I can now see the outlook anywhere settings in OUTLOOK, awesome thanks. So I create a new profile and put my name, email address and password in the wizard and and I get 2 red x's and 1 green check mark for the configuration. The name on my certificate is exserver which is the name of the exchange server and my external host name is exchange.mydomain.com so I think that is why I am getting the certificate error. security alertX-this certificate is not from a trusted authoritycheck mark-the securitycertificate date is validx-The nameon the certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the siteThen I get this msgmicrosoft office outlookthere is a problem with the proxy servers securitycertificate . the name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the target site exchange.mydomain.com.
