connect to exchange 2010 using imap fails
Hi there,
I'm testing IMAP connection of our Exchange 2010 server using
Outlook 2010 but keep getting error when trying to send a test email:
(MS Exchange IMAP service has been started)
Send test e-mail message: The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
I've set up the incoming and outgoing server to use the same authentication (logon ok).
in the port settings:
- incoming: 993 SSL
- outgoing: 587 TLS
Would anyone be able to direct me on what to check next?Andrew P.

Is this from inside the network or outside? Can you telnet to port 993 from the client?James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com

I tried this from outside the network.
I can telnet to it ... well, at least it just gave me a blinking cursor with nothing else.
I can't telnet to 587 though.Andrew P.

ok, false alarm.
apparently McAfee decided to block it:
Blocked by port blocking rule
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe
Anti-virus Standard Protection:Prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail
after disabling McAfee, it works correctly.
If only Mozilla Thunderbird works ... but that's another matter.Andrew P.
