I opened new contact list in public folder. I copied my pesonalcontact list ( about 5000 contacts) to this folder
When I try to searchfor specific contact I always get "no to items to dislay .." .
IfI am searching in my privete contact list ( the sorce) the samesearch I find the contactI looked for.
If I reduce the contacts to about 2000 contacts I can search and find the contact I am looking for.

You can search contact if the number is 2000 or so in your public folder, but 5000 will not work
Here's some confuse about "search for specific contact",
1. Does that mean you can view those contacts directly from that public folder in navigate panel, yet not able to search from "find contact" combo-box?
2. Or you just mean contact can't be seen from public folder totally if the number near to 5000 and unable to search? Go server-side test ahead.
Known similar issue:
You cannot locate contacts when you try to use the "Search" or the "Look For" feature in Outlook to locate contacts in Exchange Server 2003

Here's my troubleshooting step
On Client-side:
1. Try to use different attribute to search, like "company", "E-mail"
2. Run OL in safe mode, It'll not allow third party programs to run their binaries in conjunction with the Outlook client. Make a clean run for OL. search contact again.
3. Use Another user's OL with another account on another PC to do search that public contact list (these step can basically eliminate cause on client side)
On server-side:
1. Please check properties of that Public Folder store. Is Full-Text Indexing enabled?
2. Please check the size of that public folder in ESM, see if it's really growing for the size it should be. (test if it's about confuse 2)
3. Please check both of "limits" tab on the properties of your folder and public store which hold your public folder data. See if there's a restrict about your folder that forbid you to upload large amount data. (test if it's about confuse 2)
