Hi,
Look for event 1221 in the application log - this event will tell you how much free space there is in the database - this will indicate how much smaller the database will be.
Normally there is no need to run an offline defragmentation - only if a lot of mailboxes have been moved / deleted there could be a reason for such a lengthy process.
A backup method could be to take a copy of the databases.

How can we verify that the defragmentation is successful ?
And after the defragmentation is complete, will there be any success event ids in the application log

The Eseutil program will tell you when it is finished (and if it worked) - it will not log any events.
As I wrote in my first post - don't do this unless it is necessary. There will be a lot of downtime for the system in the process - eseutil will be able to defrag 5-10 Gb per hour.

Hi,
>Could someone tell me the ID which can be used to perform the offline defragmentation of exchange databases
Eseutil /D
read the article you can find the example in the link:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa995748(EXCHG.65).aspx
>Does some one need to be an admin , to perform the defragmentation of database
The user who run this command need full permission to the database file and folder.
Usually we use administrator permission to run the command. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.
