deleted users send non-deliverable
I've a rather annoying problem. I had a user that went on maternity leave, so her mail account was forwarded to another user. The maternity user came back, and her forwarding was stopped, but not before the user that was getting the forwarding
left, and her account was deleted. Now some users that had the maternity user in a group are getting a non-deliverable from the deleted user, even though the forward was taken off before the user was deleted (the account was disabled and unforwarded
before deletion). I have a feeling that it's outlook that is creating this, as if the user sends mail to the ex-forwarded user, they don't get the non-deliverable, but if they try to send to the group, they get it. I had them remove the group and
re-create it, but that didn't solve the problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction to solve this? It is quite irritating.
Thx

first: I would look at the routing mail troubleshooting logs and see what is actually happening to the messages behind the scenes
I really don't delete user accounts. I make them inactive
I have journal accounts for backups of all the sent mail and received
do you journal the email? that may be a place to look
for the group, did you delete the deleted user as a member of the group?

So basically, the user who left on maternity leave is not getting emails that are being sent to her even though you removed the auto forward.
Can you look at one of the users who is sending an email to that maternity user, right click the address that is resolving in the to field and see if that address is valid or is hers.
Can you check ADSI - I think there are some attributes in there that set delivery for this purpose.

I will do some more digging in the mean time.
There are some other attributes in there as well. See if any of them match you old forward address.

Actually, the user that came back is receiving her mail fine, the problem seems to be if a meeting invite is sent from her, and the person who receives it replies to the meeting request, or someone sends her an e-mail as part of a group, the user that
sent it receives a non-deliverable from the deleted user. The maternity user still gets the mail, but for some reason, the outlook of some of the other users in the network still tries to forward mail from the maternity user to the deleted user.

Was that person who has now left a delegate on anyones calendar? The email piece sounds weird. If someone made her a delegate on their outlook profile, and set the properties to send meeting related request to the deleted delegate, you willl see this type
of thing.
can you verify she was not a delegate or she is not in any of the clients rules?

Paul is on the right track, it's a common issue, likely the deleted user was delegated rights to the maternity user.
Accepting or denying a meeting request causes a "5.1.1" non-delivery report in Exchange Server

I was teetering over it being an outlook issue too. I'll test it out and see if that cures the problem.

Well, it's not delegates, neither stations have anything in delegates in outlook. I wonder if it's not because exchange is in cached mode and their profiles are not seing that the deleted user is not there anymore? I'm sure that deleting the
profile and recreating it would not get rid of this unless there's a way to delete the profile totally.

Run outlook /cleanrules from the maternity's user's machine; or create his profile on your machine and run the command on his profile. This will delete any hidden\corrupted rules. It will delete all his rules so if you need to back up up first do so.James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com
