difficulties using 2 domain names on sbs 2011 exchange server
Hi, I'm trying to follow those instructions: http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2011/04/13/how-to-configure-sbs-2011-standard-to-accept-e-mail-for-multiple-authoritative-domains.aspx I took only one user and set "company2" on the company field in active directory and assign the new policy to the main OU of sbs and "company2" as a company rule. I set the MX record of the second domain to the subdomain of my SBS server (remote.company1.com). I have 2 issues: 1. When I try to email the new address (user@company2.com) from gmail, I get this error message: Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 5.1.1 User unknown (state 14). And I have no clue where to start investigate this problem (I know nothing about "tracking" emails or mail flow...). 2. As far as I understand from the instructions, it would create "secondary" address just for receiving, but sending emails would be just from one address (the primary that I'll choose). There's any option to reply from the same address the message received? There's any option to choose "from" address when composing a new message? Many thanks!

Places to check: * Are you using an Edge Transport server? * For your Authoritative Domains - is the domain listed and is it set as authoritative * Does the user in question exist? Can you send the email internally using the email address and not the name from the address book. Does it resolve for you? Or does it bounce? * Test this from an external website like www.mxtoolbox.com - use their SMTP test * Has your Offline Address Book been updated? Can you see all the email addresses for this user with Outlook in the address book? As for the send/receive part, yes you can only send as the default email address. This is what is shown in the FROM field on the email. You could 'send-as' another mailbox, but that would not assist with what you are trying to do. You could use an Edge Transport server to do an address re-writing. Thanks for the great answer, Because I see it will make stuff a little bit more complicated, I think I prefer to separate the companies, nobody will have 2 addresses but I still need the SBS machine to deal with 2 different domain names. About my current problem (with the method I tried yesterday), when I'm trying to email from internal outlook to the new address (first time using the second domain name), I get this error: BTW, I can email this testuser926 using @company1.com Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups: testuser926@company2.com (testuser926@company2.com) The e-mail address you entered couldn't be found. Please check the recipient's e-mail address and try to resend the message. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk. Make sure that the user has the email address mentioned in the error. Can you send an internal email to 'testuser926@company2.com'?JAUCG

The user didn't got the email address because the new rule was in second priority. when I switched it to priority 1, or when I added the new address manually to the user's profile, it worked. Thanks for the help, JAUCG.
