disconnected mailbox
i had a user showing as a legacy mailbox. i disabled the mailbox and went to disconnected mailbox container but was suprised that the users mailbox was not there. i have tried to force it to show by using the clean-mailboxdatabase cmdlet on my exchange server. after running the command and going back in to look for the mailbox in the disconnected mailbox container it still does not show. here is the cmdlet i have used exactly on my exchange server to force it to clean the mailbox DB and show the disabled mailbox in the disconnected mailbox container.clean-mailboxdatabase "third storage group\mailbox database 2"as you can see i have multiple storage groups and mailbox DB's. i have run this cmdlet on each storage group\mailbox db but it still wont show.am i missing something in my cmdlet that is causing it not to update the disconnected mailbox list with this one user or is there some other cmdlet or way to get it to show up? i have read that the database cleanup will run during the scheduled maintenance, but i need to get it to show up ASAP and not wait for the scheduled maintenance.thanks a bunch.

Hi,~ Have you created or moved mailbox using Active Directory Users & Computers, instead of EMC/EMS of Exchange 2007? It shows legacy mailbox in those cases and you needed to use Set-Mailbox cmdlet withApplyMandatoryProperties switch to apply the mendatory properties require for Exchange 2007.A mailbox that is located on an Exchange Server 2007 server may be identified as a legacy mailbox in Exchange Server 2007http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931747~ You have already ran Clean-MailboxDatabase cmdlet on the database where this mailbox was located, that was the thing you needed to do to get the mailbox in Disconnected Mailbox. - Can you run cmdlet again for all databases of server and re-open the EMC and check the result... The IT director created the user using ADUC on Windows server EE 2k3, show it was showing as a legacy. i will use the set-mailbox cmdlet with the applymandatory properties switch in the future cause im sure this wont be the last time he does that......i have run the clean-mailboxdatabase cmdlet on all DB's, i reopened EMC but i still do not see that users disconnected mailbox.i am completely baffled at this point. so i decided to recreate a new mailbox for this user and restore all previous data into the mailbox using my backups.

When you create a mailbox for a new or existing user, the Exchange attributes that are required for a mailbox are added to the user object in Active Directory. The associated mailbox object in the Exchange mailbox database is not created until the mailbox either receives a message or the user logs on to it. If you create a new mailbox, and then remove or disable that mailbox before the mailbox object in the Exchange mailbox database is created, it will not be available as a disconnected mailbox
