doman rename exchange 2010
I have read a few articles that mention exchange 2007/2010 is not supported for a domain rename. Is this still true? Has Microsoft developed a tool somilar to the one for exchange 2003? Has anyone successfully renamed a domain running
exchange 2007/2010?
Thanks

Renamed the Active Directory domain(s)?
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc816848(WS.10).aspx is still the valid document.
Why do you want to do a rename? Whats the business requirement? Have you thought about using UPNs to log on and then adding that new UPN so that users think theyre logging on with their email address which, presumably, will be the new address (only you
know its the UPN not the SMTP)
Tons of other ways of achieving the same kind of thing. Also remember that theres a good chance youre virtualizing (its 2011 after all!) so you can stand up a new forest and migrate pretty seamlessly to that.
As I said, many ways to skin that cat.

There is a requirement to change the netbios name of the domain. From reading the many articles and post I was almost certian that this was not possible. I wasn't sure if Microsoft had developed a tool similar to the
one for exchange 2003.
Thanks.

Nah. Migration time (unless you can increase your powers of persuasion by leveraging the Force.)

I ran the W2K3 "domain rename" tool a few times and it was occasionally painful. Sometimes it worked perfectly and sometimes we had many client and member-server issues.
If Microsoft is listening, though, there are frequently business reasons why a NetBIOS domain name or a DNS domain name must be changed. I hear this all to frequently. Our company is merging/rebranding/diversifying/mutating/etc... and we want
NO MENTION OF OUR PREVIOUS identity.
Bottom line, though, I think you are going to have to migrate your data to a new domain.
