email gets rejected due to ip in dynamic space
i am using Exchange 2007 & have a static IP, but since i am using a residential acct it is still with a dynamic range & outgoing email gets rejected by many of the email servers i usually send email from another POP3 acct in my outlook profile (i would like to stop doing this) i have an external website with an MX record forwarding to my server i am looking for options 1) i can upgrade to a commercial acct w/static IP and hopefully this will get around the problem, but doubles my monthly cost 2) can i receive email as a i do now, but change the outgoing email to use the SMTP server on my website any others? mark

If you are on a dynamic/residential IP address, then the two options you have outlined are about your only options. Option 2 could be refined to say that you route email through another server - this could be your ISPs, a web server or a service that offers mail relaying - often called a mail hop. Using a smart host is the usual way round this issue if you can't get an IP address in a correct block. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/

do i just have to configure exchange to use the SMTP connection & disable the current local sever connection? i was looking in the help & for option #2 i was hoping to add a new SEND connection that used my web server SMTP, but leave the inbound as it is i am not an exchange expert by any means... mark

You should already have a Send Connector for sending email. The simple option would be to just add the smart host to that connector. If the smart host requires authentication then add the username and password to the smart host configuration. Job done. Don't touch anything else. Keep it very simple. Can you connect to the server on port 25 from the Exchange server? telnet host.example.com 25 You should get an SMTP banner back. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/

Hi Mark How things are going? For inbound or outbound email, I would suggest you run Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/ to do a test. It will guide you some general steps for troubleshooting. Thanks, Elvis

very slow... i have set up an email acct on my ISP i.e. outgoing@domain.com but, now when i try to add the smart host info to the send connector i get the following: The DomainSecureEnabled can't be set to $True unless the DNSRoutingEnabled is also set to $True the 1st time i tried this i did not get the error, when things didn't appear to be working i removed the smart host info i also tried using the smart host wizard i just upgraded to SP2 hoping it might fix it, but no mark

Delete the connector and recreate. You aren't limited to using the connector that has been created. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/

Hi Mark, You could refer to the following article to recreate a connector and test the issue again. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998814(EXCHG.80).aspx Thanks, Elvis

If you open the queue viewer then it will show you what the problem is. Most likely it is an authentication problem or the remote server doesn't allow you to relay through it. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/
