enabling circular logging
Hi,
we have a mailbox database with circular logging enabled.
I disabled circular logging first because we are going to add the database to another mailbox server.
my question is, do i have to wait for the queue length and replay queue length before i enable the circular logging again?
or can i enable it immediately?
thanks!

Hi,
You can enable Circular Logging as per your requirement, you don't have to wait for anything.
What is the Exchange Server you are using?
Cause if you enable circular logging in Exchange 2007 and 2010 than you will have to restart MS Exchange Information Store service so that Circular Logging can take the effect.

You can enable it immediately but the changes dont take effect straight away. To make your changes to the circular logging settings effective, restart the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service, or dismount and then mount all of the databases.
Just remember the effetcs of Circular Logging which I assuem you know.

Right now I am using Exmerge to take backup of all mailboxes in existing exchange server 2003. Circular logging is enabled on default First Storage Group.

It's always good to keep enable the circular logging.

It's always good to keep enable the circular logging.
Actually, its always bad with production mailbox servers, unless there are specific reasons ( large mailbox moves, troubleshooting, etc...) and then it should be enabled only temporarily.
The only time it should be enabled permanently is with Exchange 2010, using mailbox store replication - with at least 4 copies.

Hi,
thanks for all the replies.
I am using exchange 2010. I enabled circular logging but i encountered a new problem.
after enabling circular logging, the copy status of the mailbox database was set to "failed" on the other mailbox server (the newly added mailbox server).
the error says it is looking for the very very first logfile. before i enabled circular logging, the copy status was set to "healthy" but with a very high number of replay queue length (around 300k).
i hope you can help me on this. thanks!

A reseed may be required. If you were having replication issues, I wouldnt have enabled circular logging until the reason for the problem was fixed.
