eseutil versions
I'm running Exchange 2007 SP3 Rollup 8.
When I open a command prompt and type "esetuil /?" I can see that the version is 08.03
When I open the Exchange Management Shell and type "esetuil /?" the version shows 5.2
When I open The Exchange Management Shell, change to the \bin directory and run eseutil /? I can see that the version is 08.03
If I open Windows explorer and search for eseutil on all drives on the server, there are 2, one in the bin directory, one a commvault (backup program) directory. Both are 8.03/
Where is the version 5.2 coming from and how do I make this consistent?

Why are you running ESEUTIL so much?

I'm not running it so much. I just want to understand why I have 2 different versions, where the 5.2 version is.

Commvault probably uses its own version to replay logs after a restore.
If you want to ensure you are always using the 2010 version when using the 2010 tools, I would check the PATH statements on the server and set the PATH for just the one eseutil to the Exchange /bin directory and not the Commvault one.

I checked this before posting the message here. This isn't a path thing. As I stated in my original question, whenI run eseutil from a command prompt, the version is the latest, as expected, 8.03.
This is why it was worth asking the question. The Exchange Console, by default, is running an old version of eseutil. My question is where is the 5.2 version coming from in the Exchange Console.

Hmmm... can you check the versions of ese.dll in both dirs and see if they are different ?
When you open the Exchange Powershell window and it shows it as 5.2, what dir are you in?

Thanks Andy,
I checked ese.dll versions all the same.
I think your question will help clarify my issue.
From powershell, eseutil runs as expected, as it does from a command prompt. The Path statement points to the Exchange Server\bin folder. So, no matter where I run it from, it's the same.
The difference, issue, is from the Exchange Management Console. My question is really for information now. Why is the version different from the Exchange Management Console than it is from Powershell or a command prompt.

So where exactly does it say version 5.2 in EMC? I think I am missing something here. Sorry for being so thick.

If I type eseutil /? I get the version as well as other information.
I also get an error if I try to run eseutil from within the console - eseutil doens't match the database version.
Maybe the e2k7 console has eseutil built in? But there is still no eseutil.exe file. Is it part of a plugin?

Hi The_Messenger,
I check it in my lab, and all the version is 08.03.
Did you check it on another Exchange server or Management Tool client?
"When I open the Exchange Management Shell and type "esetuil /?" the version shows 5.2"
Could you please post the result here? The result should be same as the one running in \bin directory.Frank Wang
