exchange 2003 webmail and vista
I have a exchange 2003 and running exchangeweb with IISThe problem is i can't compose new mails in Windows Vista. When doing so, i get a little red cros (like a broken picture link) in the editor. When using WindowsXP or other versions, it works perfect, but not with Vista.
This may be a small issue, but i can't find the resolution.

Also experiencing this problem, not only me, but all other known Vista-users, and not only with webmail, but also with Blackboard (an ELO) using plugins for editing.

Wow... any updates? First: lost VPN (Nortel), now webmail w/Exchange '03. This is starting to hamper my work from home arguments.
OK, might have found a solution: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5bc06e8a-08eb-4976-bc68-a03ebe3a2552&DisplayLang=en
This needs to be installed on the E2K3 SP2 servers. Per MS:
"In the upcoming Microsoft Windows Vista Beta 2 release, the Dynamic HTML Editing ActiveX control is being removed from the Internet Explorer browser. As a result, there is functionality missing that Microsoft Exchange Outlook Web Access relies on. This update replaces that deprecated functionality on the Microsoft Exchange servers so that Microsoft Exchange Outlook Web Access continues to function smoothly."

Have you guys tried running IE as an administrator in Vista... I have found that this can help problems sometimes.

Aaron Marks wrote:Have you guys tried running IE as an administrator in Vista... I have found that this can help problems sometimes.
Yes, I run as an administrator and this doesn't help. This problem can be correct by this:
Exchange Admin needs to do a Hotfix (either E2K or E2K3) by going here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911829
Run Firefox
That's about it. Vista no longer includes support for the ActiveX control that is used for HTML editing in Outlook Web Access, so the Hotfix on the Exchange side needs to be applied. This hotfixenables a neweditor that uses an Internet Explorer "iframe" instead of an ActiveX control.
Of course, Firefox will run. Your choice.

I also have the same problem. I've also tried downloading the hotfix above (I saw the same link recommended on a few other forums), but when I run the download, an error message appears that says, "Not enough storage is available to process this command." I have no other windows or programs running when I extract the files. Any suggestions? It just seems really odd that Microsoft is making it difficult to use one of their own programs.
I guess I'll use firefox, but then you don't get the preview pane...oh well.
Thanks for the help!

Hi I had the same problem with webmail, but i downloaded the latest version of the S/MIME Control from the options inside webmail and this allowed me to type into the editor pane.
The down side to this is that when i send an email it stops IE 7 in its tracks and it has to restart...without sending my mail. Any ideas on how to fix, or do i just have to wait/use firefox?

I ran into the same issue after installing the S/MIME control. There is a temporary solution. Before you log into webmail, you have two options for client: "Premium" or "Basic". Select "Basic" and you'll be able to send messages. Ofcourse, there is a downside to that. User doesn't get all the formattingoptionslikespellcheck, Bold, Italic etc.

I have the same problems with the hotfix link Exchange2003-KB911829-v3-x86-ENU where I get the error "Not enough storage is available to process this command." too.
I can't seem to find any solutions available.
Can anyone help advise or point me in the right direction - have I missed something?!
Update - looks like Webmail 2003 has been updated as I can now reply etc. using Vista and IE7, thought I'd post to let you know...

I'm getting the same problem. I don't see a solution in this threadfor the "not enough storage" problem. Shouldn't Microsoft products actually work perfectly together, especially Vista and IE7? Crazy.
Firefox works fine, but the whole interface with Web Access is limiting. Does anyone have a hotfix for the hotfix?

The patch you are trying to install is for the Exchange Server, NOT your Vista PC. Your error most likely means that you are trying to install it on the wrong computer. You must get yourServer Admin toinstall the patch.
If you are having this problem,it means your IT group is being naughty and not updating the server with the critical updates.

UMCane,
Your network admin needs to install a patch on the server- there is nothing you can do about it as a standard user. You have two options:
Exchange Admin needs to do a Hotfix (either E2K or E2K3) by going here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911829
Users can get around the problem by runningFirefox
I suggest the former even if your employees end up doing the latter.
M.Murfster posted the solution back in Feb 2007 in this thread, thanks to him for posting it originally!

Bob Maui,
If you have not yet solved your hotfix installation issue, please post the error. MySWAG on this problemis that you have SBS2003SP2 ... the SP2 this hotfix refers to is E2K3 SP2 so if you are not running E2K3 SP2 then that may be your isue.
If you have solved this - please post the solution
Thanks!

Obviously I'm new to Vista -- webmail has worked great in 'premium' mode for over a month then as of today I have to use 'basic'; also lost (nortel) VPN, so working from home is a struggle. I did the download inside webmail S/MIME and have the same issue...restarts internet explorer when you select send.....how to remove this or fix it? Any new updates to make Vista worth keeping? Thanks!

Which issue? this thread has a few in it.
If it's that OWA doesn't let Vista users write emails, then you have two options:
Exchange Admin needs to do a Hotfix (either E2K or E2K3) by going here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911829
Users can get around the problem by runningFirefox

Disregard the link http://mustech.net/2007/02/20/windows-vista-webmail-owa-fix-for-internet-explorer-7-five-step-fixas it is the solution to a follow-on problem and not the root cause (the lazy IS admin).
If you are talking about Bob Maui's problem, I'llrestate:
MySWAG on this problemis that you have SBS2003SP2 ... the SP2 this hotfix refers to is E2K3 SP2 so if you are not running E2K3 SP2 then that may be your isue.
Please be more descriptive with your issues/questions when you post in the future - it's hard to help whenwe have no idea what the problem is.

1) Have your network admin install the hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/911829/
2) Use Firefox

Hey K.King, you get tired of answering this thread over/over again? Thanks for the props. I just took a look at my hotmail account and saw all the responses ... err ... regurgitations. I'm amazed that after all this time, there are still E2K3 admins that are sucking at their job.

NP - I give credit where it's due. I rarely "solve" problems around the office without some sort of help from MSDN or google, and I appreciate that people have more time/knowledge than I do.
Nah I don't mind - I'm used to it. You'd be surprised (or maybe not)how often I send emails out to my users saying "see page XX in the IT user manual for the steps to your inquiry". I've "explained" to people how to recover exchange emails they "accidentally" deleted more times than I care to remember. It comes with the territory, unfortunately.
I took over asmall business' network a year ago ... they hadn't had a onsite ITSsince05, so you can imagine the state of that system. Iwould expect thatat least some of the users have the same problem mine had ... nobodyonsite to fix these small problems, and mgmt not wanting to spend $100/hr for somebody to come in and fix it in 5 minutes.
(Un)fortunately, windows server is ubiquitous with business; since most peoplefly by the seat of their pants when it comes to their home computers, some small businessesjust expect servers to do the same,i think.

Ouch, I can imagine. I work for a 30k+ employee company and have responsibility for over 4k servers. The whole E2K3/Vista thing came up after I got my hands on Vista and just wanted to check webmail early after Vista was 'publicly' released.. Accidental find.
I guess I'm spoiled, I expect most of my IT peers to do their job and they are always onsite (or within Blackberry range). If there's a hiccup, these guys are usually right on top of it. They expect the same for their servers and applications. I think you have the tougher job. My IT peers have probably run into all the major issues and have a fix and OS/Hardware support if not, whereas you have to either know exactly what is wrong or do all the legwork to find and fix the problem alone. Tough work.
Anyways... GL out there.
