exchange 2007 backup
hi,
i have taken over a remote server whcih needs the transaction logs cleared.
the server is hosted by a hosting company which i have no direct access to.
so there is one hard drive setup on raid and the hard drive has been split into "c" and "e" e holder the exchange database.
now i am not the clue up on exchange to be honest so bear with me.
i have tried doing a full backup using the windows server backup utility to a network drive which the server has access to however it fails after about a day when it obviously loses connection to the network drive.
if i set to do the backup of only the e drive and not the c and e will it delete the unused transation logs?
i have googeld and looked around at alot of other posts but is there a free tool or way of removing these logs as the smaller the drive space is then i reckon it willl not take as long to do the backup everyday from now?
i have also noticed that you cannot setup a backup schedule to a network drive? why is this and how can i set a backup everyday for to do a full backup which will remove these logs at the same time?
many thanks

Hi,
In exchange backup you don't have to backup the whole drive jsut the exchange database, here is a article for ntbackup 2003 for exchange :
http://www.petri.co.il/backup_exchange_2000_2003_with_ntbackup.htm
also have a look into this post it has few other tips also :

The best way will be to schedule a ntbackup on local drive & then move the backup file to that network location, that will be much faster.

If the base server for Exchange is Server 2003, NT full backup should clear the logs.

if the base is 2008 a full will do the same, Full backup, in fact this is your only option.
