in a exchange 2007 farm, can all the exchange be in different service pack say 2 cluster mailbox role is sp1, 1 hub transport role is sp2, another 2 cluster mailbox role is sp3

Of course ,you can! If your exchange server is not DC or GC. When install an exchange 2007 server ,only required : 1.Schemaster is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or a later version, or Windows Server 2003 R2. 2.Global catalog server is running Windows Server 2003 SP1 or a later version. As far as I know ,there are three version of exchange server 2007: Exchange server RTM, Exchange server sp1, Exchange server sp2, Exchange server sp3 which version of your exchange 2007? There are small difference between different exchange version. One word ,you had better install all version of exchange on x64 Windows server 2003 SP2 or later version. for more exact information ,you can access http://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/library/aa996719(EXCHG.80).aspx

I’d like to jump in here. @Jianlong The differences between Exchange service packs are not “small”. They contain schema extensions and significant feature differences and improvements. @Tommy You can have an environment with Exchange 2007 RTM, SP2 and SP3, provided your servers are in exactly the order you listed. You are supposed to upgrade server roles in the following order: · Client Access servers · Unified Messaging servers · Hub Transport servers · Edge Transport servers · Mailbox servers Therefore a CAS with SP3, Hub with SP2 and MBX with RTM is allowed. Additionally, you must upgrade your internet-facing AD sites before back-end sites (if you have any). Having said all this – WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THIS? It is recommended to upgrade all servers to the same service pack once you start out on your upgrade project. So while it is supported, the spirit of support is that you’re only here because you’re on the way to pure SP3. Mike Crowley Check out My Blog!
