exchange 2007 install in root domain or subdomain?
I would like to get someones opinion on an Exchange 2007 design questionthat I have.We are looking to migrate from Lotus Notes to Exchange. Currently we haveNotes servers spread out in 5 different sites and we would like toconsolidate our worldwide Notes email infrastructure to just two separatesites each running Exchange in CCR configuration and possibly SCR a fewdatabases between the two. One site would support our European offices andthe other site for our US offices. I believe that this will be easier tomanage since we have more IT resources in the two locations where Exchangewill reside. We have a single AD forest with a single root and multiple subdomains. Theroot domain is used primarily as a placeholder. All of our end user accountsare stored in their respective sub domain.Root.domOffice1.root.dom (US)Office2.root.dom (US)Office3.root.dom (US)Office4.root.dom (Europe)Office5.root.dom (Europe)Each domain currently has their own administrator but the two domains thathave adequate IT resources are located in the office1.root.dom and office4.root.dom domains.Site 1Ideally system administrators in the office1.root.dom domain will handle theexchange servers in their site. In addition to the exchange servers, theyshould have the necessary rights to manage office1, office2, and office3 usermailboxes stored on this server.Site 2System administrators in the office 4.root.dom domain should have fullaccess to the exchange servers in their site and also have the necessaryrights to manage office4 and office5 user mailboxes stored on this server. My question is which domain should I install Exchange into. Should allexchange servers be members of the root domain or in a single sub domain(i.e. office1.root.dom). I want to be able to satisfy CCR and SCRrequirements and make sure the above requirements are met.How does the security work for the four predefined Exchange 2007 groups workin a single forest, one root and multiple sub domain.I hope that I explained it clear enough and that it all makes sense. Thanksin advance.

Hello,As per your scenario, I will recommend you to install the Exchange Server 2007 in the root domain and have delegation to administer Exchange Servers across locations. As far as CCR and SCR is concerned geographical and membership of Exchange Servers should not be of any concerns. Thanks,Gaurav S.
