help adding domain to exchange 2003
We have a windows 2003 functional level forest and domain. We are running exchange 2003. We just merged with another company and will be adding them to our network by creating a new domain tree in the forest with their domain. We are hoping to somehow have the two trees working with one exchange server. Is there good solid way of doing this or do we HAVE to add another exchange server to the newly added domain tree? We are testing this network change and are having issues doing this with exchange. From the root domain i can create users and get the appearance that I am creating an exchange mailbox in our root domain for the user in the new domain, but the mailbox never shows up in system manager and the user can never configure a mailbox. But if you go into exchange tasks, the option to create a mailbox for that user does not exist (because it thinks there is one somewhere). Thoughts? Sites and domains? Reconfigure exchange box?mcp

Hi,Did you run the setup.com /domainprep in the new domain ? This is a prerequisit before Exchange 2003 can be installed in that domain. Where are your own users located in the forest in th root domain ?Regards,Johanblog: www.johanveldhuis.nl

exchange is already setup in the original domain. I had one forest and one domain. I am introducing a new (second) domain tree directly under the original forest. My exchange box is located in the original domain. Can I introduce the new domain into the forrest while still using the same exchange box in the original domain? All trusts are set up and dns is working. I have prepped all domains and the forest. i want to use the same exchange box in the original domain to manage users from both domains. I can add users from the other domain and create a mailbox but it never shows up. I am hoping to be able to do this but do not know if it is a possibility.mcp

Hi,What the relationship between the orginal forest and the newly one? Just create the new domain under the same forest?Or just create trust relationship?I think you can try to use resource forest and account forest to plan the exchange deployment.Create user A with mailbox in original forest.Disable the account.Create user A in the new forest, link mailbox to the original forest. How to Connect a Mailboxhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb201701.aspxManaging Resource Mailboxes in Exchange Server 2007 (Part 1)http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/management-administration/managing-resource-mailboxes-exchange-server-2007-part1.htmlRegards,Xiu

HI,It is possible to manage users in Domain A from an exchange server in Doman B as long as your trust in place, in your case users dont show up instantly could be due to AD replications time. Make sure your Forest and domain trees are working fine and replication take place without issues. ---CheersPadman De Silva
