how to add an elbow in a straight line

I do not use the dynamic connectors - they never seem to go where I want them - they move around and have a mind of heir own, always WRONG.  Maybe it is just me (anyone know of an advanced visio course online or on CD?)

So I typically use straight lines with arrows for simplicity, but sometimes I want to add an elbow or specify a break that I can then move around to position as I need.  This would allow me to make the straight lines manually.

Is there a way to do this in 2010?

Thanks

Straight lines are just that, however, try opening the Connectors stencil:

More Shapes -> Extras -> Connectors

There are many connector types that may suit your purposes better.

Thanks - but that doesn't help me in most cases because in most cases, as the diagram increases in complexity - I need to modify the existing lines, add more, along the way - I don't necessarily know starting out which kid of connector I need.   I can't just add an elbow that slides freely so I can position it as I need?

The dynamic connector also seems to have a mind of it's own - struggled with connectors for years.  They are very unwieldy.

Thanks!

You need to try out the connectors a bit more, lines can have new bits added, not the dynamic connector maybe, but try out the connectors stencil. Read up about them, there is more to them than meets the eye.

Also look at the page connector routing options.
