But if you doubtit, move the mailbox to another database (or server) and see if thesize of the mailbox/number of items in the mailbox changes.---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP--- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Hi,If the user has reduced the size, then give sometime for Exchange to react. If after 2 hours also you have the same problem, please verify if the mails that were moved are still visible via OWA, if yes then mail have actually not moved, maybe due to Cached Mode / Sync as suggested by Rich too.Nitin Gupta (gupnit) | MVP - Exchange | http://www.nitingupta.in/blogs

Hi, It is normal to see the slight difference of mailbox size when viewed in Exchange System Manager and Outlook. This is because Exchange System Manager will show the size of all message items. Outlook will show regular emails in the mailbox and some personal rule as well. So if we just see a slight difference, this is normal and expected. For this issue, please disable Home page from outlook for the user. Note: Inbox->properties->Home page If the problem still occur, then please try to export the mailbox and rules then delete and create a new mailbox for the user. More related informaiton to share with you: Error message when you perform a Send/Receive operation in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 on Exchange Server 2003: "You have exceeded the size limit on your mailbox" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913112 Besides, since you have sync error, then I recommend you re-create the outlook profile and then check the issue again. Why Do Exchange System Manager and Outlook Show Different Sizes for the Same Mailbox? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996139.aspxWhy Do Exchange System Manager and Outlook Show Different Sizes for the Same Mailbox? When a calculation is performed for a size of a mailbox, consider the following: Microsoft Outlook takes into account only what a user can see from the mailbox, so only items that a user can see from the Outlook client in the mailbox folders are calculated. Within a mailbox, many hidden items exist. Some of these items include third-party hidden folders, rules, and items used to support the functionality included with an Exchange mailbox. These hidden items are sometimes referred to as NON_IPM_DATA. Exchange System Manager considers all related mailbox data, including NON_IPM_DATA when calculating the size of a mailbox. This implies that the size of the mailbox is usually bigger when viewing it from Exchange System Manager, rather than viewing it from Outlook client.Just FYI-------------------------------QUESTION: How do we calculate the Mailbox Size for ESM & Outlook?ANSWER: ESM gets it from store by reading PR_MESSAGE_SIZE_EXTENDED from the mailbox table. (Store gets it from JET). A thing to note here is that the actual database size might be more than what ESM gets because it does not calculate certain tables like the index, view tables and some other components. QUESTION: What does PR_MESSAGE_SIZE INDICATE?ANSWER: PR_MESSAGE_SIZE contains the sum, in bytes, of all properties on a message object.PR_MESSAGE_SIZE_EXTENDED is an 8-byte version of PR_MESSAGE_SIZE QUESTION: If the Mailbox Size shown in ESM is large when compared with Outlook Server data .What could be the cause?ANSWER: This is usually the case and is what we expect since Outlook only includes IPM_SUBTREE and NOT NON_IPM_SUBTREE.Ratishwww.MSExchangeGuru.com
