moving exchange db
I need to move the Exchange 03 db from sbs2003 to a server2003 std with Exchange.
The short reason is the sbs was restarted but never came back black screen. And since you can not have a backup sbs server we are undoing right now
So for our attempts have been unsuccessful to move the exchange db.
Is there a white paper on moving it? We have already distributed the other sbs functions to other servers.
Thanks.
now day 2.

There is no database portability in Ex 03. You'll have to do mailbox moves if its the same exchange org, if not, exmerge everything out and back in. There may also be some 3rd party tools...try quest software.

You have a backup of your Exchange database files? A few tips:
- Make sure that you deploy your new Exchange server in the exact same organization as the old one
- Make sure that you deploy your new Exchange server in the exact same administrative group as the old one
If it's an online backup, also make sure that the name of the storage group and the name of the mailbox database match the original one.
In case of an offline backup, make sure that the database file names match the original one.
Then dismount your store, check the box "database can be overwritten by a restore", do the restore, and mount the database. Reconnect all users (to new users most likely)
In case you cannot mount the database after restore, one check before you go on:
eseutil /mh priv1.edb...and hope and pray it says "clean shutdown", and then at least you know that you have a good database!
Let me know how it works out
