msftesql.exe randomly hits 100% CPU
I am running Exchange 2010 SP1 Rollup 3v2. I have 4 mailbox servers in a DAG configuration on VMWare 4.1 ESXi. With about 3000-4000 mailboxes per server. 32Gb ram and 2 CPUs per server Most of the time the CPU runs normally,
but from time to time the msftesql.exe service (which is part of the MS indexing) will hit 100% CPU untilization on both CPUs for a minute or two.
anyone seen this issue before?
Thank You,

Can you bump those guests to 4 CPUs?

That was our first thought, but the process takes up 100% of both CPUs. So, wouldnt it take up 100% of all 4 CPUs at that point?

probably not. I have found that 2 CPUs was never enough for the mailbox role. You could always bump one server for now and test.

Two CPUs for 3000 mailboxes? That's pretty light. I'd go with Andy's
suggestion and try one mailbox server role with more CPUs. There may
be other things at work, too, since it's a VM.

Thanks guys. so far so good. I have added two more CPUs to two of my mailbox servers and it has resolved the 100% CPU usage issue.
