multipart/alternative Message handling on Exchange & Outlook
Our application server is sending email via Exchange 2007 Server. The mail is multipart/alternative format. Our problem is : text/plain format is "This is a plain Text" text/html format is "<br><font size=2>This is a html text<br> *two format is in same email. After outlook received the mail. The plain and html veiw will be show html format only. And the plain format have not to display when I change to read plain text format. I found some of KB said that it is related Exchange server to use ESMTP (Extended SMTP) to receive the mail and suggest to use SMTP. I do not know when I change it that is it affect exchange server to transfer mail ? Anyone can help me ? thanks Keith

That's perectly correct. >After outlook received the mail. The plain and html veiw will be show html format only. That's also correct. Outlook will prefer to use the "richer" format. >And the plain format have not to display when I change to read plain text format. If you're still seeing HTML formtting then it's a problem with Outlook. Exchange is still going to deliver the MIME body parts and it's up to the client to select the appropriate one. >I found some of KB said that it is related Exchange server to use ESMTP (Extended SMTP) to receive the mail and suggest to use SMTP. I do not know when I change it that is it affect exchange server to transfer mail ? SMTP couldn't carte less about the contents of the message body. It's only concern is to deliver the message using the "envelope" command "RCPT TO" and the instructions given to it by the sender (8bitmime, etc.). >Anyone can help me ? I think your question would be better asked in an Outlook forum. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP
