need some Clarification
Hi all,
Exchange 2003 and outlook 2007
If I enable junk mail filter in my outlook with cache mode, will my smartphone still receive junk mails? do I have to keep my outlook open all the time and then my smartphone will not receive junk mails that filtered already?
Thank you.

Yes the junk-email folder is processed by Outlook, not Exchange. Exchange 2003 has the IMF which would apply to the server (benefiting both the phone and Outlook) but it isn't as good.
Also note depending on the sync latency a junk message that hits the phone first may only dissapear after outlook moves it to junk and then syncs back.
Upgrade to exchange 2010! :)

Hi,
For this issue, you don't need to keep your Outlook open all the time. Because the Junk E-mail Filter Lists are stored on the server and are available from any computer.
The filter lists are also used by the server to evaluate messages. This means that if a sender appears in your Blocked Senders List, then messages from that sender are moved to the Junk E-mail folder on the server.
As a workaround, I think you can try not to download Junk E-mail folder on your smartphone to avoid download Junk E-mails from Exchange Server.

Not Exactly. This only applies to Safe and Blocked Senders. The actual work of the anti-spam processing (outside of explicit block/allow) is done by the desktop - which is why your desktop is where the monthly-ish updates are applied when released.

Thank you.
What would Exchange 2010 do differently than Exchange 2003 regarding this?

Exchange 2007 and up have an entirely rebuilt anti-spam mechanism. The "IMF"
(No, this is not the impossible missions force) has been replaced!
