new-mailboxrestorerequest question
We have migrated most our users from exchange 2007 to 2010 but we have still some mailboxes on 2007 that we were using for restore purpose on exchange 2007. Is it possible to use new-mailboxrestorerequest to restore a mailbox from a backup taken on 2010
and restore it into a folder in a target mailbox residing on 2007 so we can inspect it for discovery purpose? We just need to know if 2010 to 2007 restore is possible given the version mismatch.

No but that's not related. The question is if you can restore a 2010 single mailbox into a folder residing in a 2007 mailbox the same way you would do it in a folder residing in a 2010 mailbox.
This is what we use
New-MailboxRestoreRequest -SourceDatabase RecoveryDB -SourceStoreMailbox E2k10sourceMBX -TargetMailbox E2k10targetMBX -TargetRootFolder "TARGET FOLDER"
Can we use this:
New-MailboxRestoreRequest -SourceDatabase RecoveryDB -SourceStoreMailbox E2k10sourceMBX -TargetMailbox E2k7targetMBX -TargetRootFolder "TARGET FOLDER"
Thanks

There is MRS ( mailbox Replication Service) which runs on CAS of Exchange 2010 which is responsible for Mailbox Moves as pointed out in the article .
this Service is not present in Exchange 2007 .
What is the error you are receiving , your command appears to be Ok.

Here is the error. It looks like this is a limitation of some sort.
Database 'Servername\SGDBane\DBName' is hosted on server 'servername.domain.local' (version Version 8.2 (Build176.0)). This server version is not supported for this type of request.

Hello
This is not supported and Senario by Microsoft. Exchange 2007 and exchange 2010 have diffrent Storage design. Exchange 2007 has Storage Group design, Exchange 2010 hasn't . So this is not posiable by design.
May be you could try some 3rd party tools.

Yeah , there is a version issue .
I would do the following , use the mailrestorerequest to another mailbox on E2010 box and later move the mailbox to Exchange 2007 with new-mailboxmoverequest.

Check this for supported scenarios and you shoudl be able to move the restored mailbox on e2010 to e2007
