new global catalog server not listed in exchange 2003 directory access tab
I installed a new 2003 DC (DC3) that has DNS installed on it. I have 2 other 2003 DC (DC1 & DC2) in this site that also have DNS installed. I installed DC3 because DC1 is old and starting to have hardware problems and it will eventually be demoted. My problem is the exchange 2003 server does not see DC3 in the directory access tab under domain controller or global catalog list. How can I get exchange to see DC3 without having to manually add it to the list?

Hi, Exchange can be instructed to not use DCs which have the PDC Emulator role. The PDC Emulator is usually hit quite hard by various processes and may not provide good performance. For more information, please refer to the KB Exchange Server 2007, Exchange Server 2003, and Exchange 2000 Server may experience performance problems when the PDC emulator is used for DSAccess http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=298879 Based on it, please confirm that below things. 1. Whether the DC3 seize the PDC Emulator role? (Run Netdom /query fsmo in the CMD to check the role, please be sure that you have installed the Windows Resource kit) 2. Have you performed the KB298879 steps before? 3. How many DCs and GCs on the site? I hopes it addressed your problem. Regards, Jason

Hi,We are experiencing a similar issue here. The two exchange servers in our site are only seeing DCs and GCs in other sites/domains.We have four DCs in our domain (three are alive, one is offline for the moment), all are in the same site as the two Exchange servers, but the Exchange servers won't recognize any of them. They only see the other DCs in other domains. This has been happening only since we took one of the DCs offline for maintenance, the DC that is offline is a GC (all 4 DCs in our domain are GCs) but it does not hold any other FSMO roles.I anticipate that a reboot of our Exchange servers would fix this issue, but I would really like to be sure.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
