Using SMTP is the only reliable way to deliver e-mail.

Exchange doesn't have a POP-to-SMTP kludge. SBS does. It's not a
reliable, or accurate, way to deliver e-mail.

Once the e-mail's in the mailbox, how it gets there has no bearing on
how the client software reads the messages.

exchange server that is not configured correctly to download the mail to the server using POP.
Exchange doesn't "download" e-mail. If you're having a problem with
that SBS "POP" connector you should be asking your question in the SBS
forum.

If you suspect a problem with the SBS POP connector accessing the
mailboxes on your ISP's e-mail system you should be working with your
ISP. If it was working and then it stopped, look for changes on both
sides of that connecotr -- including an expired password on either
system.

Hi guys,
Please excuse possibly the most noobish question about Exchange 07. We are having issues getting mail on one account to our exchange server. Our MX records are still pointing towards our online host (1and1), am I right in thinking that there are a few ways
to receive mail to an exchange server. The first being to point your MX records to the IP address of the exchange server. And the second being to download mail via POP to the exchange server and then have the client (outlook) connect to the server in the usual
way with active directory.
Today we had an issue with this and my colleague said that we needed to change the active directory password to that set on the server/host (1and1). My thinking being, changing the AD password will have no effect on receiving email because it is the actual
exchange server that is not configured correctly to download the mail to the server using POP. We had a connection to the exchange server just fine, but no messages going to it. Sending is fine but that is with SMTP and totally separate.
Sorry guys I know you have much more interesting questions to answer, I'd really appreciate a reply though. Can you confirm what I have said is "correct" albeit not that technical...
(exchange connector more the problem than AD)Andy
