Hi,
Click Start->Run, type MSCONFIG in open box and press OK.
In System Configuration window, under Startup tab, uncheck the box of "Microsoft OneNote" and press OK.
Then reboot your computer.

Hi
I did that and it still starts on its own when i connect with RDC.
Onenote opens with 3 windows.
The bottom window is the program screen, then there is a window on top of that titled "set location in Onenote" with the text "where do you want to save the printout? Pick a selection or page"
on top of this is a second pop up message saying "you cannot use this command while there is a dialogue open in Onenote"
All of these windows auto launch every time i connect to my server and i currently have to manually close them all.
Ive also just noticed in the event view on my server loads of Errors and warnings for example:
EVENT ID: 1111
Driver Send To Microsoft OneNote 2010 Driver required for printer Send To OneNote 2010 is unknown. Contact the administrator to install the driver before you log in again.

It appears ive fixed this issue by unselecting "printers" on the Local resources tab of RDC, which isnt ideal because i might actually want to use my Samsung printer, but now of course i cant.
Still looking for a fix for this...
Hi,
Is your samsung printer a network printer or a local printer? If it is a network printer, you can try to set a local printer as default printer then select "printers" on the Local resources tab of RDC to have a try.
Maybe this issue is related to Windows service.

I too discovered the workaround to this issue after a lot of frustration. Unfortunately my mstsc 6.1 keeps reenabling remote printing. I save my settings to default.rdp but time and time again it continues to revert to the old settings.
So I decided to see if there might be a newer version that might not have the same issue and discovered lots of chatter about rdc 7.0. Unfortunately I can't find one that installs to my Winodws 7 Enterprise. Everything I read indicates that RDC 7.0 ships with W7 and W2K8. But I've exaimined several 2008 and 7 installs and it's not there.
I found this but there is no download info - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2009/08/21/remote-desktop-connection-7-for-windows-7-windows-xp-windows-vista.aspx

Can anyone direct me to an RDC 7.0 that will actully intall and work with Windows 7 Enterprise?
I found this site with a download but it won't install to Win7 regardless of the compatablity mode selected -
I'll chime in here as well to say this happens to me too. Driving me crazy! Mine opens Onenote, inserts a new page and then gives me an error
"The file you have selected cannot be inserted as a printout. There may be a problem with the file, or you may not have the right program installed. You must first install a program that can open and print this file type, and then try again."
Rather than delete the printer, I've adjusted the settings only to allow printing from 12:00am to 12:01am.
When I remote to my home computer, I notice that 3 of my printers (including the OneNote printer) get "remote desktop redirected printer doc" files in their queue yet I've not sent a print command from the home computer. I don't know if this is a OneNote problem or actually something else... and OneNote printer is just the annoying one.
I'm going to say the same thing, however this is happening on connection to a DC and it's sending things to all printers.
Hello Everyone,
I am also experiencing this, but it only seems to happen when I start an RDP session to my Windows 7 Laptop from my Windows 7 Desktop. If I open an RDP session to any other machine (Windows 2003, Vista or Windows 7) from my Windows 7 desktop it does not seem to happen.
OneNote 2010 is installed on both machines. I think cenders suggestion is going to be the best option for now until a fix/workaround is found.
Regards,
Although the solutions some of you are proposing may help with the problem, I believe that you are missing the underlying cause of this. I don't have ANY local resources being made available to the RDP session, so that's not the case for me.
It's caused by a key (or combination of keys) that trigger this. For me, it tries to launch one note as well as print, until I run my hand over the entire keyboard (thus releasing whatever key it thinks is being pressed). I still haven't figured out which key(s) the computer thinks are being pressed, but will post here when I do (usually when I connect to remote desktop, it's for work, and I don't have time to play around with the keyboard when the problem shows up). If someone else figures out which key is doing it (by pressing it, thus releasing), let us know :)
is anyone going to bother helping answer this question from Microsoft?
I've had this problem as far back as the last version of Office and I just am beyond annoyed at it.

Same here. Very annoying problem. And all there seems to be is workarounds, no real solution...
Either I disable printer forwarding in mstsc or I disable my OneNote printer. Both gives me limitations.

I second this. I'm getting this problem on a newly built Windows 7 Home Premium PC, Office 2010, and RDC'ing into my Windows XP box. I have a Samsung network printer available. When I RDC, I get the exact same set of windows popping up. At first I thought maybe it was the Samsung printer manager software causing problems, so I uninstalled everything except the driver itself, but the problem persisted.
Know how I fixed the problem? I uninstalled OneNote. Done. Sorry Microsoft, but all I really wanted was Excel, Word, and sometimes PowerPoint. OneNote looks mildly interesting, and I'm sure it does some useful things, but I have very little patience for things that get in my way, and eliminating your software was the path of least resistance.
FIX THIS ISSUE. You know, for all the people who actually want to use OneNote.
Yet another work around that does not involve removing the One Note Printer Driver. I set One Note as a printer to be available only between 12:00 and 12:01 AM. Seems to not start now. This was bugging the crap out of me too.
Course if you want to print to one note now you have to change that setting but at least you don't have to re-install the driver.
Hi,
I got this error on Windows XP as well as under Windows 7. I am 100% sure this is a Samsung driver issue because I did not have this problem before.
To fix the problem, I simply change options in the remote desktop Local Ressource tab. I uncheck "Printer" then One Note as well as all printers on my job's laptop are not trying to send "Remote desktop printing..."
I too had a same issue. i started getting same error popups after installing Samsung ML2580 driver setup.
later i uninstalled Samsung C panel utility under programes and features.
the trick is never install setup file of any printer driver on the terminal server. always extract the driver and add driver by only selecting particular inf files. because along with driver setup utilities like monitoring tools and c panel will be installed and this is the one creating the popups.

I'm an MSP, connecting to things remotely between XP through Server 8 with RDP (VNC with WFW 3.11 through 2000..).
The only occurs with ONE SBS 2003 server.. and occurs for all four of us. It has happened on both my XP Pro workstation before this Windows 7 Enterprise workstation. It started with OneNote 2007, we are currently at OneNote 2010.
What I "can" say is that it is "not" the workstation, other than OneNote is installed and thus it opens. My home PC does not, and thus does not have this problem.
80 other servers do not exhibit this behavior.. only this one.
Though annoying, I have not spent the time to track it down.. but do know that it isn't "something else" other than having OneNote installed, and something on that server installed..
Having a "real" solution would be helpful. I'm not a big fan of OneNote.. but we are an MS Partner and as such do their bidding.
I found that easy print was not so easy after all :)
In group policy disable "use remote desktop easy print printer driver first". Now easy print is 2nd choice, not 1st choice.
printer redirection in group policy is found under both computer policy and user policy.
Hi!
I'm facing a similar issue. I've 2 servers. One running Win2K3 and another running Win2K8 R2. In both when I connect using RDP it sends 2 blank pages to my local printer. I'm using a Windows 7 to connect on those servers. I've another servers that the issue doesn't happen.
Doesn't matter which print it's. It could be PDF printer, or from any other vendor.
Any tips to fix something weird like that?
Workaround ------------------------ 1. Open remote desktop (mstsc) 2. click Option 3. click local resource tab 4. Uncheck "Printer (T)" under "local device and printer section"
This workaround doesn't work with tsmmc.msc for managing multiple remote sessions. It will also turn off printing, rather than removing the generation of the "Remote Desktop Redirected Printer Doc"
Well, that is an ok workaround and *might qualify as an answer to the question but isn't a solution to the problem.
The more I read in this thread and the other one: One Note Remote Desktop Printer Redirection
I'm beginning to think this is an issue with Remote Desktop.
I don't think this is an issue with Remote Desktop, but an issue with OneNote. I have Windows 7, Office 2010, but I have some software that I have to run in XP mode. Whenever I go into XP mode, OneNote immediately starts and opens windows. If I close OneNote, it just reopens. I unchecked it in the start menu, rebooted the computer and it continues to do the same thing. I did try the proposed workaround above of making it only availabe from 12:00 to 12:01 AM and that seems to work.
But that is just a work around. I wish there was a fix for this problem.
Hello.
I am now having this same issue. I have some rdc clients that receive from terminal server pdf black page redirected from it. If no pdf printer, it sends to xps printer. @home, it sends me to one note printer. I am sure it's a teminal server issue, because I have other server and the major difference between them is one is fully updated and the other is not. The fully updated one is giving me this.
What is strage is the fact that only happens with printers that sends to file. No happening to real printers!
Any more ideias?
Hello, I just had the same issue staring yesterday for all of our rdp users connecting to a Windows 2003 R2 server. I had recently installed a print driver for a Xerox WorkCenter 3210 printer so a user could use their local printer when connected.
All of a sudden after rebooting the terminal server everyone was complaining about getting the OneNote to mysteriously just started popping up on everyones screens.
I spent the better part of a day trying to fugure out what was wrong with OneNote to cause this to keep opening and believed it was a OneNote issue.
Then when I went home and connected to the same terminal server I had the same issue. Only then I looked at all of the other local printers that were also redirected through the terminal services connected and the other two printers also were queuing up print jobs labeled "Remote Desktop Redirected Printer Doc", and since I was at home off the network they were all just sitting in the queue. This told me that the same print job that was getting send to the "Send to OneNote" Printer causing OneNote to open was also being sent to all of the other printers. Only it was causing OneNote to open and the other printers just ignored the jobs.
I went back and uninstalled the print driver and software for the Xerox that I had installed and the issues went away.
I am guessing this is an issue with Remote Desktop in conjuction with how some printer drivers are working on the server for the specific driver installed on the Remote Desktop OS. I do not think this is an issue with OneNote, only that it shows itself much more obviously since OneNote opens to deal with the print job sent to that device.
Let me know if you have any other thoughts.
Thanks,
Jeff Cleath
Hi again.
I think I got it!!!!
I have cutepdf writer and xps writer on the client computer.
I have changed their port to LPT1 and LPT2. Never happened again.
After that, I put back again the CPW2 port and the XPS port, and login again and happened again!
So, to fix on the server we might have to do this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302361
Please send me your feed back.
PS: You can also do a regfile with the following code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00It's working for me now.
Thank you all
Just fixed mine. Same issue as all. It was happening on 3 Windows 7 PC's with RDP into a 2008 Server.
My System:
2008 Server R2 using Print Management, All 3 PC's do have One Note, none have a Samsung Driver.
To fix it:
Administrative Tools > Terminal Services > Terminal Services Connection
Under connections I right-clicked the connection (RDP-Tcp) and then select Properties.
Client Settings tab
Under Redirection select the check box next to Windows Printer, which disables it.
Reconnect to the Server and the problem is gone.
If you do disable the Windows Printer mapping are you not disabling the ability for the user to have any mapped printers when using remote desktop? That would not seem to be a viable solution if that is the case.
Thanks,
Jeff
While turning off printer redirection makes the problem go away, this isn't a fix. You are turning off a feature to mitigate the problem. There are people who need printer redirection turned on and when it is turned on, this problem should not occur.
I've had the exact same problem except I'm running 2003 Server and working with Windows 7 computer.
I tried to do your fix but 2003 is set up differently See below
Administrative Tools > Terminal Services Configuration> Connection
Under connections I right-clicked the connection (RDP-Tcp) and then select Properties.
Client Settings tab
I couldn't find a redirection tab. So I tried to de-select the printers under connection, logged off the remote session then logged on again and still got the same pop ups.
Do I need to change different settings.
I tried, but no luck.
Any news?

No remote desktop redirected printer jobs anymore !!!
In the past already learned samsung just can not make good software, look at there mobile phone software.. is a real crime

The solution of RSilva worked for me, similar problem in virtual winXP mode.
I added the FilterQueueType value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CONTROLESET001\Enum\Root\RDPDR
and the problem is gone without uninstalling any printers. (HP, brother, Pdfcreator)
Thanks

I also got rid of the problem after removing Samsung software (SCX-4825 printer)

After hours of reading through forums and posts similar to this one, and knowing the proposed work-arounds were not going to be accepted by my client that was having the issue, I came to the conclusion that it had to be a print driver or the software that gets installed along with the print driver on the server that was causing my issue.
I started searching and came across some Epson software that was installed on the remote desktop server when I was trying to get a scale house ticket printer to work as a network printer. The printer was not installed on the server but the software remained in the add and remove programs list.
I removed the three Epson entries in the add and remove programs list and the problem stopped.
I don't know if this was mentioned above but the behavior I observed was that the print job was going to multiple printers, not just OneNote. I my case if I removed the OneNote pritner I would then get prompted by the Microsoft XPS Document Writer for a file location to save to.
I could open the print queue for each of the printers that were getting redirected on my local machine, I would then log in to the remote desktop server that I was having the issue on. I could see the "remote desktop redirected printer doc" get sent to each printer. If the printer was online it would flash for only a moment and the printer would ignore the job as if nothing had been sent to it. If the printer was offline the job would stay in the queue.
I think this was mentioned above so I will reiterate, don't approach the issue like it is a problem just with OneNote or with a particular driver from a particular manufacturer. We know at the very least that the problem can be caused by Samsung driver/printer software and by Epson driver/printer software so it stands to reason that there can be other drivers/printer software packages that can cause the same problems.
I hope this helps!
Despite two decades of reading forum answers I have never bothered to add my two cents but after a lot of troubleshooting this one I have to agree with TechViper. I have seen this issue occur a few times in the last few years and someone finally paid me enough to look into it deeper than "un-tick mapped printers".
I removed Samsung's suit of software while retaining the drivers and it resolved the issue. It appears that it sends out some form of request that is causing the issue. I tried to map only the default printer via GP but, while removing the save .xml file windows it still caused the OneNote popups. I still have not traced the exact process that was doing it but removing the suit solved the issue.
If it ever occurs again for another client then maybe I will troubleshoot further.
Luck!
Hi all,
I know this is an old thread but I hope my answer can help somebody.
SOLUTION: removing the Samsung-Software (not the printer driver) solved the problem for me.
Many thanks for all the valuable posts.
