For some reason, 1 time out of 2 when I open a document, the icon in the lower barr flashes, and it is behind my other document. I'd like that every time I open a new document, it would be in front.

This is an ever long discussion which has many fixes that come around. First try the following:

With Word open, rightclick the taskbar, unlock the taskbar and after that lock it again. Close Word and start word again with a couple of documents. It might be that you have to try different sequences so also try

• first closing word -> unlock taskbar - lock taskbar - start word again

If that doesn't work there is always a registry setting that can be changed. Do you have sufficient rights to edit a registry setting?
