hello Paul here

we have a problem at the company with outlook search function. it only happens on an additional mailbox that is being used by one department. the problem itself is that when you search for an email your results start dropping fast until there are none left. simpley put they disappear from the results eventough the Emails remain in the mailbox and can be looked up manually but this takes a lot of time.

the exchange version = 2013

the os version = windows 7 & 8

You mean the search result will appears at the beginning, then without any operation, emails will just disappear?

Is Cached Exchange Mode turned on for this mailbox? If yes, I would suggest we first try below steps to troubleshoot the issue:

1. It might be that the Index itself has been damaged, try to rebuild the Index and see if issue persists: Go to Control Panel-> Indexing Options-> Advanced-> button Rebuild
2. Under Cached Exchange Mode, Outlook instant search uses Windows Search feature. Please try to reinstall this feature, then verify result: Go to Control Panel-> Programs-> Turn Windows features on or off, deselect "Windows Search", press OK. Reboot your computer, then repeat the above steps to enable it again.

thnx for your help the second option solves the issue for windows 7. down side is that on windows 8 even if you turn the windows search off and on it won't solve the issue. wel we are still testing the solution but im not expecting any more problems with windows 7 so thnx and il look further for Windows 8. btw il let you know if i find a way to get outlook working properly again.
