why word will not let me type

In regarding of the issue, please provide us more information to assist you better.

• Which version of Word do you use? Word 2013, 2010 or other.
• Did you get some error message when typing?

This issue usually occur with a trial version of Word and the trial period has run out. Please try to check your application states first.

In additional, if you have a full version of Office, please try the workaround:

Go to file>options>general, then right at the bottom of the list un-click 'Show the start screen when this application starts'.
