I have exchange server 2003 and pop3 downloader on my server machine.I had recently downloaded n installed the pop3 downloader.by reading the online documents ,I understood that pop3 downloader is a software, which downloads the pop3 emails from the web domain to my local domain andIhave already configured the pop3 n smtp settings. the thingI dont understand is how exchange n pop3 work together.I too got a errors like this" Failed to open port 25"and " SMTP servercannot open port 25".sohow cani solve this problem. looking forward for a simple and clear answer.. thanx n regards... sarfaraz shaikh

Hi, A user mailbox is a single POP3 mailbox account at your Internet service provider (ISP) designated to receive all e-mail sent to an Exchange mailbox or distribution group. The user account name for the POP3 mailbox must map to the name of the Exchange mailbox or distribution group. When the mailbox is accessed by the Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes, it downloads the messages, and then the Exchange server delivers the messages to the specified Exchange users. It is then delivered to the Exchange mailbox. Steps may like below: 1. It establishes a connection to the remote POP3 server. 2. It downloads all the messages for that e-mail account to the Exchange Server. 3. PickUp folder where the messages can be delivered to a user's mailbox. By default,POP3 listens on TCP port110 for connections from e-mail clients. You can try to use telnet domain name 25 to see whether port 25 has been opened. Besides, please follow the How to troubleshoot the POP3 Connector in Windows Small Business Server 2003 to check smtp settings.Though it is the article for SBS, you can refer it to troubleshoot the smtp settings on your Exchange Server.
