reprecussions for a shared email account Active Directory account being re-enabled and password reset then disabled again

Hello all,

my company is new to exchange 2013 so most people dont know that shared email accounts created in exchange 2013 create an Active Directory user account that is disabled by default. while doing some audits i noticed that one of my shared email accounts was set to "enabled" when i knew it was set to disabled when i created. i set it back to disabled as it should be. i then crawled my logs and found that the user who enabled it also reset the password.

so my question is.... since shared email accounts when created are set to disabled in AD and a password is created automatically and set to "never expire"... what will be the possible reprcussions of the account being re-enabled and the password reset for a few weeks and then set back to disabled?? will i need to re-create the account from scratch to re-enable it default features?? are user who have access going to have to do something???

thanks in advance

Hello,

Do you mean shared mailbox?

Based on my knowledge, only the AD account of resource mailbox and linked mailbox will be disabled by default after their initial creation. Creating shared mailbox will not disable the associated AD account.

Thanks,
