Since last a couple of days I hv migrate my exchange server 2003 (Windows 2000 Adv Server) to newly installed ML350 SErver with Exchnage Server2003 (Windows SErver2003 Std. Edi.X32bit) and trying to restore system state backup of old one but I m unable to do so.It shows errores regarding NTBackup Compatiblitiy,And I m unable to restore mail boxes useing NTBackup utility then I move all mail boxes useing EXMerg utility So anyone pls suggest me why my old backup is nt working on newly installed server or what is the limitations of Windows NTBackup utility for Exchange SErver ?BhupendraSystem Admin

Hi Bhupendra,Few things are not clear in your above query. 1. Is the old Exchange server with Wi2k Adv server is still active ? 2. On which server you are running the ExMerg utility? 3. Is the server name and the Exchange build like storage group name etc are same as the old Exchange server ?For restoring the mailbox from Backup to recovery server, please refer the below linkhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/823176

Hi,Thanks Alot for your reply !!Ya,the old Exchange SErver is with Win2kAdv X32bit & newly installed server is with Win2003.I just run Adprep utility on my old server (Exchange server) & configure win2003 as a Additional domain controller becouse my Primary Dc is runing on win2000Adv that was an other server.then I simply go to the system utility in exchange & select move mail box from old to new.both server have different name space.I just wan't to know that why NTbackup utility is unable to restore mail boxes?it their any limitations of NtBackup ?BhupendraSystem Admin

Hi,To restore Exchange 2003 NT Backup on to new server the following needs to be same as the original Exchange server of which the backup has been taken.Organisation NameLegacyExchangeDN of Administrative GroupStorage Group NameStore NameAll the above needs to be configured on the new server same as the original backed up exchange server.
