send maintenance message to all exchange users
I am looking to the best way to send all exchange users a notification when there will be a time window when services will be down for maintenance. There are too many users for a distribution list. That is the message I get when I try to make a distributions list that includes all the users in the global address list. Any suggestions???

Which version of Exchange do you use? You can use Query Based Distribution list in Exchange 2003 or Dynamic Distribution Group in Exchange 2007 for this purpose.Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

It is always a best practise to keep the members of DL below 5000 Either split them up by their Last name such as A - F and F -N and create nested DL. In this situation you can either Break the DL in 2 Parts. Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

I only have about 250 users. I get an error "the distribution list has reached the maximum size for your network e-mail server. No new members could be added" Could I increase this number for just the users who send a notification of mainteance?Thank for the reply

Seems to be an outlook DL limitation, but need to verify.... How are you adding users to distribution list? I guess you won't get any error if it is active directory distribution list (instead of Outlook) and trying in Exchange Management Console. Can you explain where do you get this error and how are you adding users to group?Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Have you tried making a Query Based Distribution Group in AD? I've sent a message that way to a very large population before. Mark Morowczynski|MCT| MCSE 2003:Messaging, Security|MCITP:ES, SA,EA|MCTS:Windows Mobile Admin|Security+|http://almostdailytech.com
