sending and recieving e-mail
Hello
please can someone help me, with the following
I have installed exchange 2007 and it is now working but i had to do the following to be able to send and receive messages, just want to know if what i did is correct, i don't want my server as an open relay.
( I only have the one server , no edge server)
1) to be able to receive messages i went to the Server Configuration container , selected Default receive connector, selected the permissions groups tab and ticked 'anonymous users'
If I did not do this i could not recieve e-mail from the outside i kept getting the following error
Action: failedStatus: 5.7.1Diagnostic-Code: smtp;530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated
2) to be able tosend messagesI went to theOrganisation Configuration container , selectedSend connector, selected theAddress Spacetab, clicked Add and for the domain added *
If I did not do this i start the queue and see the mail sitting there with the following message
unreachable domain
thx
Atif

I'm assuming you are not using an Edge Transport server and are trying to get your Hub Transport server to fill that role. If so, take a look at this article: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/11/17/431555.aspx
You will not make the server an 'open relay' but will allow unauthenticated hosts to connect to it over SMTP.

Hi Atif,
I agree with Jeff, here is another setp by step procedure to configure Hub to receive mail from internet and which will not act as a open relay.
