setting up active and passive exchange servers in different locations
Hello Hoping someone can help me.I read that you can setup exchange 2007 active and passive servers in different locations.(I have successfully setup and tested exchange in one location) , has anyone configured this scenario, if so are there any documents to help me setup up the second location as a passive server and do some tests to make sure it fails over.thanks in advanceAtif

Hi, There are many ways that this can be done. The traditional cluster is still available in Exchange 2007 (now called SCC). This can be strech clustered with 3rd party SAN replication technology. However, I guess you are thinking of the new CCR technology. This can be run over a remote link but it is important the link is fast, not least because if you ever need to reseed the database at either end, doing this over a slow link is going to be very tedious. The other reason for a decent link is that if the logs queue up for too long then on an unexpected failover you may loose data because the 2nd server is not upto date enough for the transport dumpster to contain all the missed mail. One key thing to remember is that currently both servers must be a member of the same subnet and therefore AD site. This will change with Longhorn server but not until then! Anyhow, a couple of good resources on CCR are: http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Installing-Configuring-Testing-Exchange-2007-Cluster-Continuous-Replication-Based-Mailbox-Server-Part3.html http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/08/09/428642.aspx Hope this gets you started Cheers Nathan
