Hi, I have Exchange 2003 SP2. In recent days, several files are created E0042E01.log ... E0042E43.log size of 5MB. in this day have been created so far, 43 files. A is due?. On the other hand, the symantec backup exec 11d does not remove those files (full backup and incremental) and I was out of disk space. It is normal what is happening? Thanks

Try doing a full back using the NT backup software. It should flush some of those logs.

Please be aware of the fact that transaction logfile flushing after successful backup only takes place if all databases within the Storage Group is successfully backed up. Sure, NTBACKUP would flush the logfiles for you but so should BackupExec as long as all databases are being successfully backed up.Jesper Bernle | Blog: http://xchangeserver.wordpress.com

NTBackup erase the logs. Symantec also delete them now. My question, it is normal that Exchange believes about 400 daily logs of 500KB?

In Exchange 2007, each log is 1024 KB and yes it is normal. Exchange uses the ESE platform which relies on transaction logs.

Hi _joseMB, The amout of logs depend on the amount of messages which are delivered in your email system per day. And by default, for exchange 2003, the size of each log is 5M. Different version exchange has some difference. Regards! As I said before, it doesn't matter what backup software you use as long as it successfully backs up your Transaction Logs and/or database. Please also remember that to get rid og the Transaction Logfiles you need to take eighter an incremental och full backup. Differential is out of scope here. As a last note; there are other actions that creates alot of Transaction Logfiles in Exchange. Both mailbox moves and Online Maintenance can create lots of logfiles. Since Exchange follows the ACID model, all actions to any part of the database needs to be logged.Jesper Bernle | Blog: http://xchangeserver.wordpress.com
