shared mailbox permissions in resource forest with linked users
i've got a fledgling exchange 2010 forest with linked users in an established ws08r2 user forest. i've been asked to create several shared mailboxes that allow multiple users in the trusted domain to open these shared mailboxes' inbox & calendar folders
via outlook & owa. they also want to be able to send-as the shared mailbox...

And the question is?
There is nothing unusual about the request. Create the mailboxes in the usual way and grant the permissions in the same way as you would for a linked mailbox.

i've got a handle on how to create user, linked, room & equipment mailboxes... all have been created no problem via the ems. just hoping somebody could give me an example of the syntax for shared mailboxes... how do i allow multiple users from a different
forest to open the shared mailboxes, as well as send-as?

It is the same as when you create the linked mailboxes. Nothing different. You can even create them in the same way then convert them to shared mailboxes later. If you want to create the accounts as shared mailboxes during the bulk process change -linked
to -shared in the type in your mailbox creation script.
Nothing else is different other than more users have permissions to the mailbox and Send As.

thanks for the pointers... i guess my question is not how to create the mailbox, but instead, how to assign the permissions. i suspect it's a combination of add-mailboxpermission and add-adpermission.

Hi,
First, you can create a linked mailbox via following article:
Create a Linked Mailbox
After that, please refer to the link below to
Manage Send As Permissions for a Mailbox.
Hope this helps.

thanks novak, but... when the linked users attempt to open the shared mailbox via outlook 2010 (file > open > other user's folder), they receive the following warning:
Microsoft Outlook
Cannot display the folder. The Inbox folder cannot be found.
OK

Hi,
Can you log on the shared mailbox via Outlook 2010 locally without using the linked users? If not, please let me know. Otherwise, I suggest you try to open the Inbox
for the shared mailbox with some other normal mailbox user instead of linked user to check the result. To do this, we can eliminate the user cause or permission cause.
Meanwhile, to open the shared mailbox via clicking other user's folder, the linked user should have full permission for the shared mailbox. To grant the full permission,
please refer to the following article:
Allow Mailbox Access
Thanks.

What account did you grant the permissions to?
The AD account in the other domain, or to the Exchange mailbox account (which is now disabled). It is an easy mistake to make when using Linked mailboxes.
