smtp relay
I am using exchange 2010 I have a user that travels a lot with his laptop. he uses outlook 2007 He can be away for weeks at a t time with every day in a different office and night in a different hotel. How can i set up exchange to relay so he can so he can use our mail seerver to relay to email addresses internally and externally, without having to reconfigure his smtp address in outlook all the time. I DONT want to set up an open relay. I cant define an external IP address because he uses a different one everyday If possible i would like to configure his outlook to authenticate to send just like it does to receive does any one have any easy to follow instructions on how to set this up

You don't have to be. You can enable Outlook Anywhere and he can stop using POP/IMAP/SMTP for email. >I cant define an external IP address because he uses a different one everyday > >If possible i would like to configure his outlook to authenticate to send just like it does to receive > > >does any one have any easy to follow instructions on how to set this up Can he use OWA? If so he can probably use Outlook Anywhere. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

hi, I also think that you should enable outlook anywhere. If you not enable it, you only can use outlook internally. But if he can use owa, then you can ask use owa to connect to your exchange server. About outlook anywhere you can see:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123741.aspx How to enable you can see:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123542.aspx hope can help you thanks,CastinLu TechNet Community Support

HE uses the exchange as a POP3 mail user He needs it via outlook There must be a way to enable the exchange to relay from anywhere to anywhere for this ONE client only

Nick, You should check out SMTP Logic (http://www.smtplogic.com) if Exchange does not provide this functionality you want directly, and you don't want to use Outlook Anywhere. You can use SMTP Logic as a relay for your user's email and he can continue using Exchange as a POP3 mail user for retrieving email, but he can connect to SMTP Logic for sending email outbound. If you configure SMTP Logic to properly connect with your Exchange server with proper login credentials, all internal emails will be successfully delivered as internal, while external emails will also be delivered successfully. To top it all of you do even have to point your MX record at SMTP Logic if you don't want to, since you are only worried about this one user and he can retrieve. Note that the service is free for users who sign up currently. Scott
