Thanks for the links.
I am reading these articles now and from KB843105, it seems that it's better to enable envelop journal which captures everything; standard or BCC journaling will miss some messages. Currently, we have BCC jounaling enabled, I am going to remove the
registery key and change th value to 512 as instructed:
Note You can also turn on envelope journaling manually. To do this, set the decimal value 512 on the
heuristics property of the Exchange organization object in the Active Directory directory service Configuration container. When you clear the 512 value on the
heuristics property, Exchange 2000 post-SP3 and Exchange 2003 SP1 return to the default, standard journaling.
Do you know whether there is an issue with that? we also have the third party archive solution to archive journal mailbox.
Also, the KB mentiones that
For message journaling to work effectively, the mailbox store has to be mounted on connector servers and on bridgeheads. Message journaling is a by-product of categorization, and the store has to be mounted in case the message is marked again for content-conversion
by the categorizer.

Does that mean that we need to put the journal mailbox on the frontend server since we have frontend and backend server topology?
Thank you.

Hi,
“Does that mean that we need to put the journal mailbox on the frontend server since we have frontend and backend server topology?”
As I understand, No, you should not to do that.
Front-end server just a proxy server. No mailbox store will locate on Front-end server. Message journaling is handled by the transport component categorizer. The categorizer component is installed on back-end server. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
