subdomain cant receive external mail . please help
Hi all,
i had search and read all thread about exchange 2007 in forum but i still can't solve my problem.
let me explain detail about my exchange:
1. we have existing exchange 2007 sp2 with topology one edge transport server in dmz and one server exchange (hub, client, mailbox) used for @gunung.com. its run well until now.
2. AD in win2k3 ent
3. OS win2k3 ent
last month we decide to create subdomain mail (@abc.gunung.com) for new department. we succeed create subdomain AD.
i run this all step in main AD:
- Setup /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions
-Setup /PrepareSchema
-Setup /PrepareDdomain
-setup /preparedomain:"abc.gunung.com"
all finish with succeed so i move on install exchange 2007 for subdomain in new server. After finish i just add this server name in source server - send connectors. i didn't setting other role.
now we can send receive from internal to internal , can send using @abc.gunung.com to external. but receive from external to abc.gunung.com fail.
nb: *@gunung.com still run normally now without error for external & internal mail.
did i miss something in creating edge transport or hub transport or anything. should i install new edge server to this subdomain?
any comments will very appreciated. thanks

Hello,
Is that the real subdomain name, abc.gunung.com? If so, you are missing the mx records in your public DNS server.

Did you add the new domain to your set of accepted domains? Or was the
gunang.com accepted domain already configured to be authoritative for
itself and all sub-domains?
Do you have the necessary MX record(s) in your external DNS for the
abc.gunung.com domain?
FYI, there's no reason why you need another AD domain in your forest
just to accomodate another e-mail domain.

You can save people lots of time and aggravation, and get accurate
information, if you say what names and addresses you're using. I was
just about to tell you that unless you provide some real information
that there's nothing that anyone's going to be able to tell you -- but
you actually did post the IP address. Inadvertently, but post it you
did. ;-)
So, 219 dot 83 dot 65 dot 61 is the IP address.
The server name is ggmail dot sc dot grdsteel dot com
The IP address doesn't "ping" nor does it accept connections on port
25. Fix the "doesn't accept connections" bit any you'll be a lot
closer to getting inbound e-mail.

there isn't local server or staff at branch office. we decide to make subdomain because we want put selected staff as SC Dept. SC is Steering committee. all communication with quote " price" must communicate in SC domain.
all mail for *@sc.grdsteel.com (in &out) will auto archive and auto forward for some head dept for review and watch.
while using @sc.grdsteel.com, they have @grdsteel.com for common communication. they must separate communication.
because old exchange (@domain) run in standard performance, no more space. we decide install other exchange for sc.domain. after finish install AD subdomain and exchange, i get this new exchange joint to existing exchange.
should i create new edge transport server for subdomain ? or what is the best practice for this need. tq

That's okay. Do you have only one AD forest, and thereby only one
Exchange organization? If you do then the edge sync should get the
changes to your accepted domains list and send the messages to the HT
server. The HT server will either deliver the messages locally or
route then to another HT server for delivery.

No, that isn't necessary. It's all in one Exchange organization. Your
edge server will send the messages to the current HT server. That HT
server will send the messages to the new HT server which will deliver
the messages to the mailbox.

Hello Rich & Miguel,
now this subdomain can receive it. thx for the help.
may i ask for other problems, how can i allow users to sending email to specific domain ( not specific address). its forced to use specific address in transport rules.
ex: user can send to *@siemens.com.
and if user put address in bcc or cc, that become not allowed.
thanks

Considering the topic of this thread and the length of the thread, you
should ask this question in a new thread.
If your problem is regarding "transport rules" it certainkly has
nothing to do with the topic of this thread. :-)
In your new post you should explain what your transport rules do,
their conditions, and any exceptions. If you constructed the rule
using powershell then post the powershell source.
