translate NDR's for users?
Does anyone know of a way to or a 3rd party app that can translate NDR reports to something less cryptic for users? 90% of my users can't seem to figure out how to scroll down and read the part that says "Recipient unknown" "blocked by spam filter" etc. Was hoping for a way to spell that out to users in a less cryptic message.

You can customize DSNs in Exchange: ( This probably wont help much with messages sent to external recpients unless the Exchange Server HUb or Edge delivers messages directly. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125230.aspx View or Modify an Existing Custom DSN Message http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123506.aspx Associate a DSN Message with a Transport Rule http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/management-administration/customising-delivery-status-notification-messages.html

Hi, I have had a lot of experience with many users that don't actually read the NDR. I agree that a lot of NDR's are cryptic, here's a link thet tries to explain them but it's hard to explain E-mail protocols in general to someone who does not have inter-networking fundamentals. http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/exchange2003/exchange2003_NDR.htm While some NDR's are cryptic, most of them spell it out quite simple. For example: recicipient's mailbox is FULL blocked by SPAM filter etc, etc. I think most end users read this much: The following recipient(s) could not be reached: user@example.com on 12/15/2004 11:09 PM ... at this point they pick up the telephone. Had they read the rest they could have figured out why: The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address. maybe encouraging users to read the entire message might help. Hi, As Andy mentioned, if the NDR is generated by your server, you could use the solution to customize the NDR. If the NDR is generated by the remote server, per my knowledge, no way to change it accordingly. Thanks, Elvis

Thanks for the info. I was hoping for something that could do NDR's from remote systems not just internal ones. Was figuring it might have to be a 3rd party app if it existed. We get a lot of NDR's for accounts that don't exist or domains that don't exist and for some reason people just can't seem to figure out how to read those.
